I have a couple questions...

She still believed Todd was the killer and that she was talking to Terry. She couldn't handle that she had shot Terry and not Todd.

My mom loved this movie when it came out. She believed that the mother preferred Terry over Todd as well. That perhaps Terry was always the favorite. Maybe why he passed the buck.
