You need both the dvd and the vhs to have the full movie

I hate that there is no "complete version" of this movie! The vhs has the missing gory scenes and the missing scene where Louise Lasser visits her son in the mental institution, and the dvd titled "Nightmare at Shadow Woods" is missing those scenes, but it has a long daytime scene with the college kids at the swimming pool that is missing from the vhs version. Also the dvd is has a better quality picture than the vhs.

It sucks that no "definitive version" of this movie exists right now.

I just uploaded an edit from both the DVD and the VHS on You Tube. Now the missing footage and gore and are in one version.

The gore was cut because it came back from the MPAA with an "X." The rest of it was changed because John Chambliss messed with everything he distributed. He always knew better than the directors.

And the "Nightmare at Shadow Woods" version has a lot more changes than those. A second tennis scene is added in which Terry scares Andrea by turning the lights off while Gregg is off hunting for a ball. He comes back and says he's sick and wants to go back to her place. The naked diving board scene is an alternate take in which he says he's feeling better now. The end part of the first tennis scene in which Andrea says she has a much better idea is snipped. The scene of Gregg and Andrea making out in bed clothed is removed; an extra scene of them nude on the diving board replaces it. Part of Andrea's shower scene repeats right before Thanksgiving dinner because Chambliss was a perv. Several cuts were made to Louise Lasser on the phone. Finally, Terry making out with Karen is an alternate take in which he attacks her, rather than her enjoying it. I would imagine that "Blood Rage"/"Complex" was John Grissmer's cut and the other things were just scraps that Chambliss pulled off the cutting room floor to bring the runtime back up to 80 minutes after he cut out everything else, although the swimming scene does have some rather important information revealed in it.

That video got removed. That sucks. I'd love to see the 'mental institution' scene.

I wonder if it's a torrent. They are usually in excellent quality and uncut when possible.

Well Arrow is releasing 3 cuts of the film on Blu-Ray including a composite version with all the footage from the rated and unrated versions, so you finally have your wish.

Very happy to hear that all the footage from both cuts is being included on the disc, though I have no idea how they can do a composite version of all footage when there were alternate takes used for a few scenes in the two different cuts, as mentioned upthread. The replacement scenes for "Nightmare at Shadow Woods" are so badly put-together, I can't imagine why Arrow would want them in the picture. Terry is supposed to hear the sound of a doorbell ring - which he gets up to answer, leaving Karen on the couch - but since there was no post done on it, the doorbell sound FX is missing, so Terry appears to have extra-sensory abilities that notify him that someone's at the door. And the indoor swimming pool scene is obviously a bunch of raw dailies put together in a haphazard manner. The foley-free audio is inconsistent, and two characters have a conversation with one of them never being glimpsed for so much as a second during that conversation.

My only guess is that they'll choose the best take from any scene with an alternate. It would make no sense to have both versions back to back. That or the composite cut is just going to be the Nightmare at Shadow Woods cut with the gore from Blood Rage inserted back into it?
