Horse movies

I saw a movie years ago about a poor family, I think only a father and a son or maybe 2 sons, who lived in a trailer or something. The boy(s) "finds" a white horse. It's not an English-language movie, I think it is Eastern-European. And there was something about a cave, beach, the horse runs along the beach... That's all I remember. I tried making a powersearch here on Imdb, but I can't find it. I would like to know what it is called and if it is possible to get it on DVD somewhere. Does anyone know?

I think you're talking about "Into the West", with Gabriel Byrne and Ellen Barkin. The family were gypsies in Ireland who stopped traveling after the boys' mother died. The boys find a magical white horse, Tir Na Nog, who takes them into the old west. Great movie.

Could it be 'Into the West'? It sounds like the plot. Only thing is that film is Irish not Eastern-European.

Interesting. Here in San Diego County there is a horse rescue/sanctuary called Tir Na Nog. Now I know where that name came from.

I remember that movie. The horse was really the boys mother spirit, trying to get the family back together, which had fallen apart after her death. I'm a typical horse lover, when I saw a movie about a horse, had to go see it or have it. Personal favorite "horse" movie though is The Man From Snowy River. It was ahead of it's time.

The Man from Snowy River is absolutely one of the best horse movies! It came along a little later than The Black Stallion and holds another special place in my heart and childhood memories! I was part of a drill team and we rode to the Snowy River soundtrack. It's amazing!

Yes, it was Into the West. I don't know why I thought it wasn't an English language movie, but that's (bad) memory for you... Thanks for the replies.
