best kung fu film...... EVER!

*beep* Enter the Dragon! this is the s*hit! Sammo really knew how to direct em!

oooo and its nice out here, i think i'll stay for a while

reply

i agree.. the choreography for The Prodigal Son was much better than any kung-fu film i've ever seen!

reply

I've never seen this film but i want to BADLY! Are the fight sequences better than Fist Of Legend?

reply

In my opinion Fist of Legend has more and better fight scenes. Also the humour and the singing is a bit annoying in Prodigal son and therefore doesn't make it the epic classic as it is stated in many kung fu sites. The final fight is extraordinary fast and well choregraphed of course, but the film can't be the best martial arts movie!

The leading asian martial arts actors and their best movie in my opinion:
Bruce Lee - Fist of Fury
Jet Li - Fist of Legend
Jackie Chan - Drunken Master II
Tony Jaa - Ong-Bak
Yuen Biao - Righting Wrongs
Gordon Liu - 36th Chamber of Shaolin
Donnie Yen - Iron Monkey
Sammo Hung - Pedicab Driver

Anyone agree?

reply

Prodigal Son is by far the best martial arts film I have ever seen. The humour isn't that bad, some of the jokes is pretty fun. It isn't that many fights in the movie but the fights is incredible. Specially the one between Lam Ching-ying and Frankie Chan and the end fight of course.

I have seen this movie many times and I never get bored of it!

This film was awful in almost every possible way. Anyone who thinks this is the best martial arts film ever made really needs to go and see Ip Man (2008)! The difference is staggering.

reply

I have seen and enjoyed both... If prodigol son was made now it probably would be better
You do understand it was made in 1981 and the fight scenes are better than 99% of what we see now?

No matter how good our kung-fu is, it will never defeat guns.

reply

Yup. Best fu ever. Just goes to show that Ang Lee didn't invent the idea of kung-fu films having a plot.

reply

this is also one of my very favourite martial arts movies.. the choreography is so coordinated and fast, and the style is very interesting as well, it's nothing like anything i've seen before.. as to whether or not Fist of Legend is better: i couldn't say, but there don't seem to be any wires in this one, at least none that i can point out since there are no incredible jumps in this..

reply

Yupp.. couldn't agree more.. Yuen Biao is THE man to watch! But if you really want to see Biao performing.. watch "Knockabout"!

reply

Best fight scene is between Ching-Ying Lam and Frankie Chan during the dinner invitation. Fast and well choreographed! They just dont make them like this anymore! Definitly my favorite!

reply

This movie is awesome. How bout the massive lump on the dude's head at the end? Best comedy injury since that guy's head gets squashed in a lift in The Fly 2 and if you freeze frame it, you can actually see the head get traded for a water balloon before it gets smooshed. Classic.

Also, if you're a Wing Chun kinda person, you'll really love the fighting in this movie, and vomit at the dumb and boring jumping about in CTHD and also that new one that's exactly the same almost, um, House of Flying Daggers, YAWN!

reply

This is easily the best kung fu film ever. Only Iron monkey comes close. Was the style in that movie also Wing Chun?

reply

i think it was suppose to be hung gar.

There is really only 3 old school kung-fu movies that can rival the Prodigal Son. They are Shaolin vs Lama (don't mistake this movie with Shaolin Temple vs Lama), the 8 Diagram Pole Fighter and Shaolin Master Killer.

Shaolin vs Lama is slightly a step below, but still a great kung-fu flick.

Shaolin Master Killer may not have the action sequences to match Prodigal Son, but as a whole in terms of story, character development and overall, it matches up to Prodigal Son well.

8 Diagram Pole Fighter rivals the Prodigal Son in every way. I would even say that the 8 Diagram Pole Fighter is a slightly better movie, with one of the most intense finales in the history of movies.

You're so wrong, you're tlaking out your hole, this movie sucks, Enter the Dragon is so much better Bruce Lee is much more entertaining than Sammo and Yuen Biao is such abad actor, even the music sucked in this movie lol

Damn that's hard to keep up.. I'm just kidding, this movie is the best :D

I'm just wondering, does anyone do wing chun here? I've been doing it nearly six months, and the techniques in Prodigal Son, while slightly exaggerated for the screen, are solid :)

Kung fu movies are like porn. There's 1 on 1, then 2 on 1, then a group scene...

reply

You guys are only saying that this is the best because of the humour not so much the kung fu.

reply

Love the humour AND the kung fu. The combo works really well in this film.

"Hey! Ladies! That was fun!"

reply

I agree.. I loved both. The calligraphy scene had me dying. I've never seen someone write so seriously and actively

Hehehe. :)
