I not normally one to rip on a movie........

I know "it's just a movie," but there were several things in this movie that I just thought didn't make sense, or were just hokey, and I would sure love some other opinions:

-Am I the only one that chuckled when the car blew up after O'Brady ran over Paco's brother?

-What about during the line up, when the police make the rape victim accuse her rapist while he is six feet away?

-In any prison, do the prisoners get to leave their cells whenever they want (Like when Paco was faking that his appendix burst?)

-O'Brady breaks out, and the warden cuts him a break- no punishment?

-His clean cut girlfriend still wants to be with him after he gets his friend and Paco's little brother killed, PLUS: the father is so kind in his telling her that O'Brady is a "bad kid."

-Viking hid the knife under his locker, and it wasn't found for that long?

-There is a prisoner (O'Brady) who gets to assign jobs to all of the other prisoners?

-Horowitz? Total Badass? You be the judge.

I don't know. I am kind of on the fence about this movie. I might need some feedback to make up my mind.

Your first comment. Yeah, I thought that was weird too. And they arrested Paco at the rape scene. Why did she need to identify her attacker if he was there when they busted him?

Your second comment. I figured it was due to fire code regulations. Every door would have been a lock and key, and if there was a fire, they couldn't get all the kids out.

My own comment. When Penn escapes and goes to the girlfriend's home. Didn't you find it strange that the father says absolutley nothing at all when Penn rushes past him and runs upstairs to his daughter in the middle of the night. Then the man assigned to find Penn also approaches the door, and goes in right past the father with neither man saying a word. He doesn't even identify himself as a state official.

reply

ok try this on for size. the father is scared of penn cause he knows hes a bad ass. and the second part, her father probley knows whats going on cause he probley knew that penn was in jail.

Well she heard commotion and running up the stairs - just like an intuition thing that it had to be him. Or at the very least that something weird was going on.

With respect to the father doing nothing while the cops walk in, I'd say the cops had spoken to him and the daughter at length that O'Brien had escaped, they expected him to come see her, and as soon as he showed up they would take him away. So that was OK with me. As for him doing nothing when O'Brien runs by him to go upstairs, he knows he's coming and that the cops will protect them if he's violent.

Who the hell is O'Brady??? It's O'Brien, genius.

Ah, the anonymity of the internet makes you brave, doesn't it.

This will be the high point of my day; it's all downhill from here.

I also thought about this one, but then realized the "cells" didn't have "facilities" in them. That's why the "cell" doors weren't locked. The guards would have to be constantly unlocking doors to let inmates go to the washroom if they were locked in at all times.

Also, it's a plot device to allow Paco to fake having a burst appendix and starting wreaking havoc. It was written that way to allow for the final showdown (not to be confused with "The Final Countdown") between Paco and Mick. If they were locked in their separate cells, there would be no confrontation on Paco's last night there. It's sloppy writing, but I didn't mind it too much in this case.

reply

LOL @ o'Brady...

The facility was more of a zoo than an actual reform center. The inmates could pretty much do and get away with whatever they wanted. The guards were there more so to make sure nobody killed each other.

I'm not really sure why but this made me laugh uncontrollably for about a minute.

reply

Why would they send Paco to the same facility as O'Brien, the boyfriend of the girl he raped and the guy who (accidently) killed his little brother? Talk about asking for trouble...

reply

Because there was a logjam in admissions. They don't like it but there's nothing they can do about it.

reply

And they're shipping him out first chance they get. Now it might be a week, a month, maybe even a year ...

reply

I didn't really understand the need for a line-up. Didn't JC know Paco from school? Didn't the cops catch him at the scene with her there?

reply

jmd26 0, extremely good point!!

The cops shot Paco's buddy, and there was JC on the ground, beaten and raped. Why the hell would there be any reason to do a lineup!!

Perhaps that's why it got edited out of the DVD. Good point. Should have been a formality to book Paco for the deed.

It was up to her to press charges so probably just SOP to have her identify him in a lineup. They didn't make her pick him right there - in fact they were trying to stop her so that she could do it at a later time.

Hey! Horowitz was pretty intimidating when he hopped up on that table, threw his arms up like a leprechaun and started flingin' milk...

PS. I'd also like to add that when in prison I don't think they allow prisoners access to extremely corrosive acid that can rip through a fence, or the necessary materials to create a homemade radio bomb... In conclusion, if suspending disbelief on this movie was too much, don't even try to watch HBO's OZ...

-Am I the only one that chuckled when the car blew up after O'Brady ran over Paco's brother? - It reminded too much of the scene from Halloween 2 when they run down the kid dressed like Michael Myers

-What about during the line up, when the police make the rape victim accuse her rapist while he is six feet away? - I have no answer for this, your guess is as good as mine,

-In any prison, do the prisoners get to leave their cells whenever they want (Like when Paco was faking that his appendix burst?) - It wasn't a prison, it was a detention center for teenagers. That's why they had to go class. It isn't going to operate like a prison.

-O'Brady breaks out, and the warden cuts him a break- no punishment? - At this point O'Brien had shown that he could be reformed. He broke out because the only person he cared about was brutally raped. I think the warden took that into consideration.

-His clean cut girlfriend still wants to be with him after he gets his friend and Paco's little brother killed, PLUS: the father is so kind in his telling her that O'Brady is a "bad kid." -My friend you must not have grown up around a lot of females. She knew he was a criminal when she started dating him why would that change.

-Viking hid the knife under his locker, and it wasn't found for that long? -Again a detention center not a prison and considering that in prison people still get stabbed to death it shouldn't be shocking that Viking's knife wasn't found for awhile.

-There is a prisoner (O'Brady) who gets to assign jobs to all of the other prisoners? - Why is this shocking? Many prisons have "trustees" who assign jobs to the other prisoners. I recommend that you watch "Brubaker" with Robert Redford.

The director of Halloween 2 also directed this movie, so maybe he likes kids getting run over by cars that explode afterwards. =)

Here are your answers. I hope the help :) I didn't rewrite the questions sorry

1. It's an early 80's kinda action movie. They all have senseless explosion scenes. Actually if you look at the cover of the movie Undisputed (Wesley Snipes and Ving Rhames) there is an explosion on the cover. Not once in the movie do we see explosive material never mind an actual explosion.

2. I am not sure, but I agree if he was arrested at the scene why do they need a line up.

3. It is a detention Center, and apart from the occasional fight Not much is caught in there. Aside from the kid who gets tossed over the balcony. I think your real question should be if it was the dudes last night before transport why not throw one of them in solitaire till the morning.

4. This is where I say... Dude its a movie, but I will try to answer it. I think the warden was showing compassion towards mick. Mick didn't fight when they found him. Hell he wasn't even hiding. Him breaking out wasn't to just get out. The warden now sees a softer side of O'brien and by going easy on him is letting O'brien know there is a way out of the life style.

5.Love is a complicated thing my friend

6. It appeared that they didn't do random or scheduled checks till the sht started to heat up. So if us seeing them do this was the first time then yeah it makes sense.

7. I do not have much knowledge in Prisons minus from watching movies, but I have seen more than one where this happens. In these detention center movies I see the Adults picks one to Be the boss, Barn Boss in this one Daddy in the movie scum. It is usually the tough guy out of the bunch. By letting them form their own "government" I believe its to evaluate how they will do once released with taking orders giving orders stuff like that. Now again I have not had any experience in any of this just using guessing.

6. Horrowitz is a bad ass. Sociopath/ sarcastic prick. No regard for human life and he will have a smart ass comment
