questions about rc cola time

always wondered...

1) didn't those 2 dudes see o'brien buying a lot of soda? maybe they thought he was really thirsty.
2) wouldn't those cans burst after multiple blows?

A day without sunshine is like, you know, night.

Most likely the cans would burst, but those cans looked like the tin-plated steel soda cans, so they could take a pounding more than today's aluminum cans. In scene, you can see an opened can. The opening is one of the old pull tabs, not the stay tabs you see on today's soda cans.

good points. i get this coconut juice from thailand & it's much stronger metal than modern american soda cans.

The machine was RC Cola, but the soda cans were Yummy Cola. I think if a soda company provides a vending machine you are obligated to fill it with their products. I doubt the people who ran the juvenile correctional facility cared.

It's on right now, I took it the didn't notice as maybe he was buying a round for himself, his cellie and two other guys. Good call on the cans, too. The low end brand looked like bean containers, much heavier.

1. I think they were intending on stealing those sodas from him after they beat him up. I doubt it crossed their minds that O'Brien would stuff those cans in a pillow sack and start beating them with it.
2. Depends on how hard you hit them and what kind of surface they're being hit against. A human face probably wouldn't do much damage to the cans.

He looked like he was nervously looking around when he was buying the soda. And the cans would eventually burst, but Viking's and Tweety's heads would have burst way before then.

BTW that was "Yummy" brand cola, which was never sold in vending machines.

Tweety and Viking were not smart; they had no idea what Mick was intending to do. I agree with one of the other posters that stated that they probably thought the extra drinks were for Mick's friends.
