The house or Emma Caswell

I was wondering if maybe it was supposed to be that Emma Caswell actually cursed Melanie even more than the house.

She was so angry with Melanie that she spit at her, and remember how she was talking about smoke and passing through fire during the fake seance?

Unless she was supposed to be having a premonition about Melanie.

In either case, I thought it was pretty interesting that she said that about smoke and fire, was so angry at Melanie, and then Melanie died in a fire.

Even though the Caswells were frauds, maybe Emma wasn't totally one.

I don't think so. Melanie tried to warn John of the demon in her picture, therefore she was killed. Just like the scene in part 1 when Father Delaney and Father Bolen were driving to the house & wrecked. Father Delaney saw a fly on the windshield just like Melanie was swatting at a fly in the car

That's true. I just thought it was kind of weird how the talk of fire and smoke in the first scene with Emma, and how Emma looked at Melanie, with such venom, she didn't do that to John.

The Caswells were only in the beginning scene and then they were never heard from again. I wish they had a bigger role in the film because I'm always curious as to what happened to them.

Burn, witch! Burn, witch! Burn! Burn! Burn!

Me too. I think they're supposed to be based on Ed and Lorraine Warren.

I just thought it was kind of eerie that Emma was saying "fire, smoke, help me!", and then what happens to Melanie later on mirrors that. And you could see the real hate in Emma's eyes for Melanie, which was kind of dumb because it wasn't Melanie's idea to expose them, but I think Emma was disgusted that she pretended to be a grieving mom.

I doubt she cursed her, but you never know, or, perhaps Emma had a premonition of Melanie's death.

Or it was all just coincidence and that wasn't the intention of the writers.

It seems like anyone who ends up staying there regularly would at least feel a supernatural presence or at least get vibes. Why weren't they victims? Also, I thought they would be the ones making the satanic forces angrier than any of the people who ever lived there because they were mocking the evil by being fraudsters.

reply

I agree.

Although I think that Emma might have had a vision in the seance of Melanie's death. Notice she says, "Fire....smoke.....can't breath", and then Melanie dies in a fire. I don't know if that was intentional on the part of the writers or not, but it's interesting. Either she had a vision of Melanie's death, she cursed Melanie (she seemed more angry at Melanie than any of them), or it was just a coincidence in the writing.

Maybe the house liked the Caswells because they were bad people.

Melanie also took a lot of glee in exposing them, something John kept more low key.

It always cracks me up how the people exposed as frauds are the ones who are so pissed. They deserve to be shown for the frauds they are.
