Why is it so hard to smash windows in this house?!

Does the house turn windows into hard plastic or something? People have the hardest time getting out of there in a hurry, whereas I would have left a person-sized whole through the front door! Just saying'.

It's just supposed to be part of the supernatural part of the house that the movies are projecting. It was never mentioned in the original book that started the Amityville Horror series, nor in the first movie, the 2nd movie put that in.

Now that you mention the 2nd movie, I do remember the scene with the teenage daughter trying to get out of the house (to escape her killer brother) and I think she had the same problem. She tried like 6 times to get out!! No luck.

Yes, that happened in that movie, and that's I think the first time in the films that windows being unbreakable was put as part of the haunting.

If you're interested in the whole Amityville saga, a good place to read about the case is this board:

the windows were bolted in, that's why she couldn't get out. though i don't remember if she actually tried to smash them

Yes, she (Tricia, played by Diane Franklin) did try to smash one of the windows in the sunroom with a rocking chair. The window would not break. However, the Montellis (AKA Defeo's) found the windows bolted shut when they first arrived at the house. Now who would have done this if this film was to be a prequel?
