I think its pretty good

I'm not sure why this movie gets so much crap. I think its a decent movie. The direction and editing is solid and the movie maintains an effectively creepy tone throughout. There are a lot of solid performances given by a quality cast. My only complaint would be that the gimmicky 3D effects did more to hurt the movie than help. But take away the 3D and you have a pretty effective horror film that's a notch above most other horror films of the decade.
