Fumble scene/just stupid

With that much time left why they even run a play

reply

Well they had to run a play. The clock was stopped, but yeah it was stupid, no argument there. With it raining like that the coach should have just had the quarterback tuck it in and leap forward, or even take the safety, it's just two points, and the punt would have taken the time up anyways. But it's just the movie.

The fact that they even tried a handoff under those conditions questions Nickerson's ability to be a head coach. All those factors (falling on the ball or taking a deliberate safety) were later discussed, both by Bosko and his cronies at the bar and by Coach Nickerson to his wife. Then again, I lived in Philly when "The Miracle of the Meadowlands" occured so those things can happen on all levels.

I think the writers were desperate for some plausible way in which the coach could cause them to lose the game. In real life of course, there's no way the ball leaves the quarterback's hands.

Yeah, just watched this movie for this 1st time, and I'm not a football fan - I really don't care - but what a stupid play.

Craig T. Nelson is awesome, and I hated to see his character use a play like this to put him in the negative situation he was in.

Yeah the play was dumb, but not unrealistic for the high school level.

What I found even dumber was the RB busting open a long run down the middle with nobody around him! Where was the defense - on the sideline taking a water break?

Even more stupid was the head coach's speeches....no wonder they lost. "They don't know how hard you hit do they Georgevich!" Yeah okay.

reply

I thought that speech was one of the best parts of the movie.
