'He's using me Jess'

What did Nickerson mean when he said that about Steph? Kinda bugs me every time I watch the movie.

reply

He probably means that Steph is busting his chops

I think its a stupid line. He's saying that Steph is using him to get a college scholarship. He's using football to get a scholarship, not the coach. I thought it was stupid for the coach to take that personally. Maybe it was supposed to show that the coach took things way to personal, hence him kicking Steph off the team after the argument in the locker room. JMO

^You might be spot on about him taking things too personally.

I took my position a little further. I think what he was trying to convey is that the kid knows he has all of the tools necessary and because of that, he has no interest in listening to me when I am trying to make him a better player. Instead, he just expects me to endorse him without letting me really coach him properly.

In other words, he wants to use Nickerson's influence with coach recruiters to benefit himself, but does not respect his coach enough to be receptive to his instructions.

I definitely agree. He's arguing with the coach that he made the play when it was clearly a penalty. He should of shut up and listened to the coach teach him proper technique.

And the coach was using the players to get his college job. Very hypocritical of Nickerson

And I think you hailed it exactly right on all points.
