5.9??!!??

I don't say this is a perfect film by any stretch, there are a few clunky moments, it's sappy and everything pretty much works out in the end, while the film also gets in a point about how bittersweet it is because we know Lisa and Stef will not, likely, be together in the end. But I think this is one of the gems of Cruise's early career! I've always loved ATRM, it's prescient, with its dose of 80s economic realism and shows what options might be available for HS football stars, whether football is in their future or not. Lea Thompson is wonderful as Lisa Litski, as are Cuise and Nelson.

This film is at least a 6.5-7. Come on...

No - no it's not. 5 is generous.

5 or 6 at most.

Where it really suffered is too many stereotypical scenes, and a MUCH too stereotypical direction to Craig T Nelson's character. To me, his character just drags it down a notch or two from what could have been a 7.

I don't think some people like the reality it reflects and like to pretend the US is always perfect and all you have to do to succeed is to work and try hard and nothing can ever go wrong that isn't your fault - it's just circumstance.
