Rifleman was actually an excellent D3 QB

Not sure if this is widely known, but Rifleman (Walter Briggs) was one of the best D3 QBs of his time. He played at Montclair State in NJ (I believe 1983-86). He later played for the NY Jets in 1987 (not sure if it was one of the strike games). I played defensive back on Montclair State's JV team back then so I got to (attempt to is more like it) defend against him in practice. Incredible arm.

I was in the Point Stadium for the filming of the game, and he was easily throwing the ball 60+ yards in warmups
