I remember seeing this as a tyke

I guess it did send the needed message as I saw this when it came out and I was six years old. To this day I remember, so vividly, that lady coming back and her son gone. It has stayed with me for 25 years and I only ever saw it that one time. Incredible the impact some things have, isn't it? So the guy who did it confessed on his death bed this week. *beep* that he is. That poor family. I never realized the host of America's Most Wanted was Adam's dad! He used a terrible thing to make into a positive and as a result many scum have been caught thanks to that show.
