Did this movie impact you as a child?

It did for me! Adam and a few other made for tv movies (one on cystic fibrosis and the other about child molestation). I would have been 7 or 8 when I saw Adam, and I remember bawling and feeling sick with sadness after watching it. I don't know if my Mother got me to watch these types of movies to teach me the dangers life offers or to develop sympathy for the plight of others. If those were the reasons, they worked. I was a very cautious and caring child because I knew bad things can happen and I was lucky to be healthy.

It's sad that movies like this are not on more often.

i was born in '76 and remember being very frightened by this movie. the early 80s brought very frightening television into the american home with movies like this and "the day after" or "testament".

I recently rediscovered this movie on YouTube. I saw it once in the late 80s, but that is about all I remembered of it. Watching it now, it was very well made, in my opinion. Does anybody know how accurate it was in terms of portraying the events?

After rediscovering this movie, I realized that Adam was about six months younger than me. I can remember at that time how my brother and I were always allowed to go off to other parts of stores or malls on our own either in our town or the towns near us in north-central Ohio. They were all small towns, and things like missing kids were only supposed to happen in the big cities, which is why when we went to Columbus, we always had to stay with our parents. Even when we went into town, our parents would sometimes let us stay in the car alone while they went into the store. Times have definitely changed since then, although I've been wondering something since rediscovering this movie. Have times really changed, or have there always been things like this happening that are now getting more attention?

Yes, my parents forced me to watch it.. they then said.. "see, if you wander off you'll end up dead like that little boy.. they chopped his head off" Plus oddly enough around the same time the movie came out, I got separated from my parents at an amusement park.. so both of those dramatic experience got me scared straight.. never wandered off again.

I was born in 1983, the same year the movie cane out to television. I was not even a year old when this movie came out. I've always know the story of what happened to Adam Walah and have always wanted to watch this movie but I could not find a copy of this movie. About two weeks ago, I went to my local public library in Portland, Oregon and they were able to put a copy of this movie on inter library loan on VHS. I just picked it up today and cannot wait to watch. I wish I could have gotten this movie on DVD or Blu-Ray. Now I just have to figure out how to hook up my VCR/DVD Player combo to my HDTV and unhook my Blu-Ray disc player.

I can certainly understand why your parents wanted to warn you about strangers and a possible abduction/murder but that's a scary way to do it.

I remember be frightened because we always went to Sears (where the abduction took place) and I would go off and look in the Toy department ... Needless to stay I stuck pretty close to my Mom and Dad after that.

I was 11 when the movie aired, and yes indeed, this movie frightened me. My dad had already informed me that perverts would rape and murder my younger brother if I didn't keep my eyes on him. This is truly the most terrifying movie I have ever seen. Forget slasher flicks and Darth Vader or Jaws. This is what horror is all about: the real world and what a monster can do to your child.

I just remember the part when the dad finds out "they found my baby's head!"

Thinking back to it, it scares me more now that I have a kid then it did back then.

Seeing this movie as a child awakened my desire to kidnap, rape, and decapitate kids, once I was old enough to buy and drive a van
