Answers and questions about 10 to Midnight

One question asked was about success in the box office of 10 to midnight. One of the biggest aims of Golan and Globus was to be successful in other countries, particularly the third world countries. No matter what it made in the states, there is no doubt in my mind it made more in other countries. It is absolutely amazing how great their films really are, and I grew up with virtually every one of them, on regular TV and on video (I never had basic or premium cable). Personally, the Cannon Group are the best low-budget company that ever existed. Another question someone asked me personally was that there is no way this film went on regular TV, becuase it is politically incorrect. Believe it or not, this had a lot of airplay on regular TV in the late 80's and early 1990's. It was played every year at that time on WPIX, as most Cannon films were, including every Bronson/Cannon vehicle, with the exception of Death Wish II, which in the 1980's was always on WWOR. In the 1990's it went to WPIX. Getting back to 10 to Midnight, Gene Davis always had black or blue underwear on when he did his murders on WPIX. Also, what I loved was when Bronson shows him the device, he even says, "It's for jacking off" on regular TV, WPIX. It's very on unforunate that people and credits usually bashed Cannon productions. This is because all of them really did have a point to them, especially in history. Credits didn't take the time to see this. A lot of them were even discussed in the book Films of our Life: Some A's and Mostly B's. Actually, I personally believe this is Bronson's best film from Cannon, and one of Cannon's top 5 best films. Ask me any thing about Cannon group films. I'll even tell you what regular station played them and what films never even made it to regular TV. Yours, Joseph

These films practically DEFINE the term 'cult classic' in a way.

Look at the initial view of a film like Death Wish 3 when it FIRST came out, compared to now.

Amazing how time passing can change things...

(and I'm in your corner - I've pretty much always enjoyed these films, as poorly made as they usually are - or maybe that's one of the reasons why...)

Wait a minute... who am I here?

A very interesting post. I've lived in New York City, which meant WPIX when it was an independent.

I actually saw 10 to Midnight for the first time on TBS Superstation when it showed 'fun' movies. The funny thing was, I remarked to myself over how much better Bronson is in this film compared to others of that period, but I could tell that the movie was cut to pieces. The dorm murder scene was excised to almost nothing, which is such an important moment in the film...I remember those shorts Stacy wears, which I've read were superimposed in the editing room for TV broadcasts (?). My first thought was "Why the hell did he strip to his underwear?" Obviously, if he was shown naked, it would've had much more impact.

This film stuck in my mind for a lot of years and I finally got the DVD. It's like night and day compared to TV. I really don't know why they bother showing it on TV at all.
