Primogeniture

I loved this show back when it originally aired --- even if I was the only person who seemed to have watched it.

Watching it again on DVD, I still love this show. The satire and humor hold up even if the effects don't. And Duncan Regehr and Julia Duffy are still standouts.

Back when I originally watched this, I was puzzled as to why Prince Erik was heir to all Camarand when Camarand seemed to include King Baaldorf's land.

Now, after watching Downton Abbey, I wonder if they didn't have a rule of primogeniture where Princess Ariel couldn't inherit because she's female and the throne had to go to a male with Prince Erik being the male heir (after his father). Hence, the plan to have Ariel and Erik marry.

Course, I really doubt they put that much thought into it. But in re-watching the episodes, I couldn't help but put 1 + 1 together since primogeniture played such an important role in Downton Abbey.
