As much as I liked this show, I have to say that

for a family oriented show, poor Webster experienced a lot of scary situations. Between losing his parents, accidentally burning down the apartment, having a classmate nearly get sexually abused, having a bully basically threaten his life (in the McGruff episode), the house nearly get robbed, etc, he beared witness to some pretty disturbing situations. This was definitely one of my favorite shows as a kid (I gave it a 10), but everytime a scary situation like this happened on the show, I felt like it went from being a lighthearted comedy to a dead serious horror show! When I say horror, I mean real life horror situations. The episode in which Ma'am has a miscarriage was pretty frightening. The episode in which he burned down the apartment (lol how George, at first thinking Web had his bedroom light on, yells out "TURN OFF THE LIGHTS") literally gave me nightmares. The episode titled "That Uh-oh Feeling" was unsettling because it showed just what easy targets kids can be at the hands of people they think they could trust, just like the episode in which Webster's friend gets kidnapped by his father.

I get that a lot of 80's family sitcoms were looking to teach not only kids, but adults as well, that the world can be a cruel place, but DAMN, this show really went to extremes. One episode I'll never forget is in which Webster learns his parents were killed the night they went out, and he got angry at Ma'am and George for not telling him and letting him believe that they were just away. I don't blame Webs really, because if something happened to someone I loved, I'd rather know the truth than be made to believe that what I thought were the facts were anything but. (That episode, in fact, did bring tears to my eyes.

I'm so scared your little head will come off in my hands!

He was better off staying in the ghetto!

He was NEVER in the ghetto! Travis Long was a successful football player and a colleague of George.
