What is the song -
What is the song Vanessa Redgrave sings in one scene - she's playing the piano, singing in German - its very lilting? If it is Wagner, then it must be from an early opera I don't know. Can anyone tell me?
shareThe most "lilting" songs Wagner wrote were probably "Im Treibhaus" and "Der Engel", both from the "Wesendonck Lieder", written around about the time he was composing "Die Walkure" (in the late 1850s). Two of the songs contain some thematic material that Wagner would later use in "Tristan und Isolde" - "Im Treibhaus" being one of those. I don't have a copy of this film, but if Vanessa Redgrave is playing anything, I'll bet it's either that or "Der Engel" she's singing.
