I had my first movie star crush on him from his TV Dr. Kildare series. I was then crushed when I first learned he was gay. Those loves scenes at the beach are sooooo hot that I can't wrap my head around that fact.

He was so sensual and sexy. His kissing scenes with Meggie were almost too much to watch.

When The Thorn Birds was first being promoted, before it actually was aired, I didn't know who Richard Chamberlain as, having grown up AFTER the Dr. Kildare era, and with my life being in turmoil when Shogun first aired. I remember seeing a promo on TV one night and there was a shot of Ralph and Meggie cavorting in the water - I wasn't really paying attention but I heard something about "forbidden love" and "priest," turned toward the TV, saw the scene, and thought, "whoa....... that's SOME priest."

For just a moment, I thought I could go to Hell for that

Did you see him when he was on Leverage? Very dapper

It's nice that you and I will have likeminded companions in Hell, isn't it?

Maybe Richard Chamberlain IS Satan . yeeks. But - DAMN - he really did look good then. In all seriousness, he has such fine features, doesn't he?

So . . . your comment got me wondering, exactly how old WAS he? So I looked it up - damn! nearly 50?? He looked INCREDIBLE. What crazy fine features that man has - he looks as good now at nearly 80 as he did then, and so much better than he did as Dr. Kildare.

Mr. Chamberlain wrote about the making of "The Thorn Birds" in his autobiography, "Shattered Love" (Regan/HarperCollins Publishers 2003). He has a strong and life-long interest in metaphysics so perhaps part of his "look" as an actor is a belief in this. I also believe that Mr. Chamberlain has credited his makeup person and other support personnel on the mini-senies for a very successful result.

The scene when he was drying off after being in the rain! His tight body and that butt! That butt! He had a body better than a twenty year old! He was fit!

yes, wow, part of why the series is so watchable is that the lead characters are as attractive as described in the book.
Richard C. definitely peaked in his 40s, if you see his younger pics, he was cute but not as handsome as he was in 'Thornbirds'.

reply

Chamberlain was very good. Don't let anybody tell you different including McCollough. He wasn't supposed to be replica of the book's Ralph.
