Spotty and Skeleton gay?

Doesn't anyone think that Spotty and skeleton are a bit gay and act more like women then men?

reply

I remember thinking that when i watched it, and i was tiny (under 11) when i was watching it. So it must have been pretty obvious.

I recently had a theory that ALL of the characters in Superted were gay.

Skeleton is the most obvious,

Bulk, his companion who appears butch but is obviously a bit soft deep down, hangs out with skeleton lots, they kind of resemble a married couple.

Texas Pete - I could imagine him being secretly gay in the same way adolf hitler was...if that makes any sense at all. Being a texas cowboy (or right wing figuire) and therefore likely to be homphobic but is actually insecure about his own sexuality...(in the same way the father character is in American Beauty)

Spotty - well he does act kind of feminine, allthough I do seem to remember a female spotty coming into it at one point, perhaps his sister??

Superted - he and spotty have a very married couple relationship. Subtle details like his fondness of the colour pink, (on his bedsheets, some clothing) Though he is brave and heroic, he does sometimes remind me of a little cuffly Fern Britton!

Anyone agree with any of these??

The female Spotty, as you put it, was indeed Spotty's sister, Blotch. I used to be a huge fan of Superted, and we have got an article about him over on a website where I work, Wikipedia. I also have a (limited edition) Superted plush toy, from 1984, where you can peel his outer skin off and reveal his Super clothes underneath.

I do agree that Spotty was very effeminate, although I don't think gay, just wimpy.

And as for Superted being gay??? Herecy!!! I disagree totally with the fact that Superted could ever have been gay. So he likes pink... I like pink, but I'm not gay. Superted and Spotty live together - not a married couple kinda relationship though, since they sleep in seperate beds / sleeping bags when they camp.

BTW, I am 32 (jeez, I'm a dinosaur) and I still like Superted. Have actually spoken with and worked with Mike Young (a while ago), since I hold the rights to publish Superted for blind kids in the UK.

Anyhow, Spotty, Not gay. Superted, DEFINITELY not gay. The others? Maybe ... (Definitely Skeleton though... no question on that one!)

Skeleton was incredibly camp. I knew there was something of the raging homo about him before I even understood the concept of homosexuality. Must've been my embryonic gaydar.

That was indeed Spotty's sister, her name was Blotch (I believe she was introduced to add a kind of 'cutesy' element to the show). His parents also featured in the show from time to time

Skeleton is definetley gay, I remeber one episode where he is trying on jewellery and asks Bulk his opinion "which do you think looks better diamonds or rubies?"

"You got an MBE for scoring 7 at the oval right? What an embarrassment!"

Or that episode where they put on a sham magic show, and Skeleton was dressed up as a woman, with fake boobs and everything. It was... confusing =P

Skeleton was just toooo camp to have been homosexual!

Its hilarious to note that wikipedia describes Skeleton as "an outrageously camp skeleton".

there may be a boogie man or boogie men in the house:Homer Simpson.

Melvyn Hayes, who voices Skeleton, is camper then a row of tents in everything, yet was married to Wendy Padbury and had loads of kids!

reply

Hayes admitted he played Skeleton as camp.

Its that man again!!
