Theres a few episodes in the season with the little kangaroo, Kip I think her name was, where Rick Raccoon wasnt even around. Was there ever an explaination given for his disappearence in these episodes?

None, which was really weird because he was more or less the leader in the first season, Kip-less episodes. When Kip came along, Tyg became the leader and Rick became a part-timer with no explanation at all.
