3) "Bad Timing" - dir. Harry Mastro George
4) "Promises to Keep" - dir. Sidney Hayers
5) "Stemwinder" - dir. Burt Brinckerhoff

And if I had to pick my all-time favorite episode it would probably be a toss-up between S1's "If Thoughts Could Kill" (love the creepy brainwashing stuff + Lester Duck!!) and S2's "You Only Die Twice" (a great play on the title of the James Bond film and a great premise with the "deceased Mrs. King"). Plus, I consider seasons 1 & 2 to be the show's strongest seasons.

I'm just finished with watching season 3 and 4 and like them as much as the first 2 seasons.
They don't produce such terrific TV series anymore.

What were some of your favorite episodes?

My favorite episodes were "The long Christmas Eve", "Dead Ringer", "Fearless Dotty", all episodes filmed in London and Munich, "The Wrong Way Home", "Wrong Number", "Billy's Lost Weekend", "Stemwinder", "Santa's got a brand new Bag", "Do you take this Spy" and "A Matter of Choice".

[will talk about plots some, so mild spoiler alert]

I just watched S4, so will limit myself.

Stemwinder -- it seemed to be so much exposition, perhaps to pad the fact it was a two parter, and it stretched belief in some ways. They even skipped from a cliffhanger at the end of Part 1 to them suddenly escaped in Part 2.

MOG didn't really do it for me as a whole, especially with Amanda out of commission most of the time. Mystery hunting with senior citizens. Nah.

"Bad Timing" on the whole was pretty good, good Amanda/Lee moments though didn't really buy the final break-in.

"Billy's Lost Weekend" would be one of my top five. I liked the concept.

"Promises to Keep" was a good episode too and provided a chance for TP to shine. I liked that character and the new head of the agency seen in many episodes. A bit strange to see him in a serious plot, but it worked mostly overall.

I liked "Unfinished Business" (good cameo by the actress playing his mother; plus it was directed by Kate Jackson). "Do You Take This Spy" also was good -- good guest stars, including someone who reminded me of Remington Steele (at least the voice). That would be five.

I liked the very first episode too & as to strongest seasons ... I think all the European episodes got to be a bit much, but maybe. I liked the Lee/Amanda dynamic in the Fourth Season though unfortunately health reasons left her not around much in the final quarter of the season.

reply

I guess I liked the earlier seasons because Amanda and Lee weren't romantically involved yet. There was maybe just a spark of attraction which worked better for the overall stories. In the later seasons there was talk of marriage and Lee meeting the boys and stuff like that which I didn't care for all that much.

Huh. Guess that's a matter of taste. I think they handled the relationship stuff well in S4. I also thought they od'ed the European stuff in that season.

Ooh, five per season--that's hard. I'll do my best. ;)

These will NOT be in any particular order. I'm going to have a hard enough time limiting myself to five--I'm not going to try to rank them on top of it. It will just be as I think of them.

Season 1:
Service Above and Beyond
Saved by the Bells
The First Time
The Mole
The Artful Dodger
(I love jealous Lee!)

Season 2:
Burn Out
Odds on a Dead Pigeon
DOA (Delirious on Arrival)
Brunettes Are In
Ship of Spies

Season 3:
Dead Men Leave No Trails
The Triumvirate
The Eyes Have It
The Boy Who Could Be King
We're Off to See the Wizard

Season 4:
Stemwinder I and II (is this cheating, to count them as one?)
Nightcrawler
Unfinished Business
Mission of Gold (the only "Amanda-lite" ep I really liked. But it was done well)
One Flew East
