On DVD or Video yet?

Is this show on DVD or Video yet? I remember being 10 or 11 and finding this show hilarious. I really miss it and hope they release it on DVD or Video. If it is already please let me know!

Unfortunately, you may not find "Not Necessarily the News" on DVD. We need to get the cast back 15 years later after the show ended. Other than Stuart Pankin, the most visible cast member who has appeared in many movies and guest spots on TV since "NNTN", none of the other original cast members have been seen after the show ended basically. The fact that we never saw them since the megasuccess of "NNTN" tells us everything we need to know about them.

But wait. I saw on the internet that Rich Hall has virtually left America and is a sensation in England and Scotland as rocker Otis Lee Crenshaw, but I know nothing about that show.

It may take a lot of work to get everyone back (Pankin, Hall, Anne Bloom, Danny Breen, Lucy Webb, Mitchell Laurance, etc.). It would be my sincere wish to reunite everyone to promote a DVD of their popular 1980's cable comedy series. They could do commentary tracks, share fond of memories of the show, pay tributes to Ronald Reagan, a popular topic of that show, and as I said, other than Pankin, the cast can come out of reclusiveness and back into the public eye with a DVD. As a teenager, I know I was an ardent fan of the show. It will always be in my heart forever. Such a great cast. I would like to see someone petition for the cast reunion and a DVD and I would give it a vote any time. "NNTN" fans all over the world should set a petition to get a DVD going.

jberlin11797, what do you mean by:

Have you not noticed these actors in movies & tv shows over the years? If not, at least click on each of their names and look at the well known projects they've appeared in. A couple haven't done any work since the mid 90s or so, but most work steadily. Are they superstars like Tom Cruise or Uma Thurman? No. They are character actors. As such most people don't notice them much, but I always get a slight grin when I recognize them and remember their antics on NNTN. I do agree, however, that a reunion and dvd release would be great.

Never argue with an idiot. They drag you down to their level then beat you with experience.

I saw Danny Breen on Curb Your Enthusiasm.

What does getting the cast back have anything to do with releasing the shows on DVD? Or did I misunderstand your post?

Man I am aching for some of those skits from way back when. It would really be great to bring back some of those great skits and memories. I hope they DVD the entire seasons.

NO it is not on DVD (although a "best of" is on VHS). But it should be released on DVD immediately. Whoever owns the rights -- bring every season's episode of this show to DVD! As soon as you can! Money will be made! I too watched this show when I was 7 - 10 or so. It was the Daily Show before it existed. So I'm pretty sure Jon Stewart would like to buy a copy of the DVD as well (he loves it when I speak on behalf of him). So c'mon, please release it!

Shun the non-believers! Shhhhunnn.

The Daily Show should invite members the cast of NNTN to reprise their characters as guest field reporters. (The HBO-Comedy Central connection should make rights negotiations easier.) Do it as a complete surprise with no promotion on a Monday show (or just as "special guest field reporters" without naming them), then continue doing it for a whole week (possibly a Nielsen week). By Thursday's show they'll know if there's enough interest to market NNTN on DVD or just as free streaming downloads.

They get big cheers when a former TDS reporter like Rob Cordry makes an appearance; imagine if were Bob Charles, Frosty Kimelman (I'm reasonably certain it's an em, not ar-en), or Helen St. Thomas!

This show is STILL funny. I have a bunch of them on VHS and they hold up really well, even if 90% of the material is dated. As long as you remember living through that time, it's still hilarious! This show desperately needs to be released on DVD. When you can find every season of "Perfect Strangers" or "The Golden Palace" (look it up), then WHY oh, WHY can you not find "Not Necessarily the News"???

reply

I used to live for this show! I can't believe it went on till 1990, I stopped watching it after the original cast started getting replaced. I would so get a DVD set, at least of the early years, if it was put out. The only reason I remembered it was because I was watching I Love the 80s on VH1 and started laughing hysterically at the clips of it when the memories came flooding back. I even had Rich Hall's Snigglets book!

Amen, and I'll take it even farther to say that when you can get material from Bob Saget on DVD, but not NNTN on DVD, we're talking crimes against humanity here. To this day, when I hear "Duke of Earl," I see a clip from NNTN of a fish whose mouth was moving to the lyrics. Rich Hall's "Sniglets" were probably the bits that folks remember most, but this show used to have some stuff that would just make me cry from the laughter (like the "Put it behind your ear to keep you from nodding off" bit that they integrated into a clip of Reagan in front of Congress, with a beep going off from virtually everybody attending.).

I love this show! I wasn't alive or old enough to watch the show when it was on, but I absolutely love the tape I have of Not Necessarily The Year In Review: 1988.

reply

@Bandguy817_ why do younger people today always say "i wasn't alive when this came out, but love it anyway?"
Are you just bragging that you're young? Age shouldn't dictate what you like. I love Mozart, but obviously wasn't born during the 1700s. It's a strange habit people under 30 have now.

Just found it, ontherunvideo.com.
I hope it's good quality as it's obviously not with their permission.
