Sad news, indeed. :(

I was sad to hear the news myself. What a great show, fun and entertaining; Ahead of it's time if you ask me. He made learning fun and always took a hands-on approach. Thanks for the memories.

Loved his show.

R.I.P. indeed.

We could use more like him today. I kept out of a lot of trouble as a child by watching his show on Nickolodeon. Come to think of it I also won a few bar bets later in life with some of the things I learned. Anyone remember the trick where you cut a folded piece of paper in just the right way so that you can step through the "hole" you created? The first time I saw that I thought it was a neat trick. Only later in life when I started working in construction did I realize it was a simple way to demonstrate how much actual surface area a small, compact item can have.
Rest well, Don, generations of fans owe you for expanding our knowledge and making us look at the science of everyday life.

R.I.P Don. I,too, am from the generation that used to watch your show every morning before school on Nick, or in the lazy Summer afternoons. I remember, but could NEVER repeat the telephone tone thing they did. Remember when he played Mary had a Little lamb on the keypad? It was neat!!

and there was the one about paper and the hole....never DID get that one myself, but it was AWEsome too!

Anyway, R.I.P. You've earned it!! No one will ever be able to take your place!!

OMG, I used that for years!! I even used it in my own classroom once (even though I teach orchestra)

May you put your dentures in upside down and chew your head off! S.P.

Man that sucks. Mr. Wizard's World owned. I used to watch it at some ungodly hour of morning (4:30 am?) or something.

reply

Someone said Mr. Wizard was ahead of his time. That doesn't seem quite right. He actually reminds one of early TV with his fun little science shows.

Anyway, RIP Mr. Wizard. I feel bad because I didn't even know you were sick. :(

I wsa watching the current Episode of Big Band Theory and they open with the ficticious "Professor Proton" passing away - which prompted me to go look up Don Herbert. I had no idea he was actually that old and had died several years ago. I pulled up a few Episodes of Mr. Wizards World from the 80s and he looked to be aging well. He always managed to make science more understandable.

Thank you Don for all you did.
