But it would have been much better had Lady Bertram not talked as though she was on valium, if Fanny had been prettier, Edmund had been younger, and Henry Crawford had been less gay.

And why is Tom wearing so much bronzer in episode 2? Yeesh.

I know! It's really hideous and distracting, isn't it? I suppose they wanted to make the point that he had just returned from Antigua, but really. Yuck.

Finally got around to viewing this version, and, yes, unfortunately, it's the best we've got, as far as at least attempting to retain the essence of the novel and its characterizations. It gets one star above average from me for that alone.
Wouldn't it be nice if someone were to treat the complexity of the theme (the most complex of Austen's, I think) with the respect it deserves and give it a quality production? Sigh!
