The format must have changed when "MF" went into syndication.

I just saw the episode where Vint and Naomie were trying to adopt a baby because according to Naomie's doctor, Vint "is shooting blanks", which means he's sterile. There was no mention that he had two other children before, so I concluded that when the show went into syndication, Naomie was Vint's one and only wife.

They do mention Buzz and Sonja briefly in the first syndicated episode when Mama mentions they aren't able to come to Aunt Fran's funeral. After that, I believe neither they nor their mother Mitzi are ever mentioned again.

That's interesting because as many times as I've watched 'Mama's Family' I didn't remember them ever mentioning Buzz and Sonya's mother. I did wonder why they weren't living with their mother, but I guess this was something that I missed.

Or shooting blanks could be due to age, you gotta remember Vint is around 20 years older here than he was when he would have conceived his first 2 children.

He says that he's getting old. Even Mama says that he had no problems until he got with Naomi.

Mama also said, "I haven't heard Vint complain about being sterile until he took up with you!"

And Vint also said, "I always thought my hair would be the 1st thing to go"...Implying it was an age related problem.... I'm not saying Buzz and Sonya still existed at this point BUT it seemed their concern was Vint's age making it harder to conceive.

Many men cannot. Age is one of the big causes of male infertility. Between ages 25 and 35 the chance of getting your sig other pregnant drops considerably, and continues dropping. Testosterone levels greatly affect sperm production.

Men can father children at *any* age. There are plenty of guys well into their 70s and even 80s who have impregnated women...that being said, it is true that as men age, their sperm counts drop. So if Vint was in his late 40s/50s when he and Naomi were trying to become pregnant, then my guess is that he wasn't as virile or potent as he had been when he conceived Sonja and Buzz all those years before. And if Naomi herself was over 40, then that just compounded the issue even more.

Nothing about these episodes surrounding Vint and Naomi's struggle to have children confirm that Buzz and Sonja didn't exist. All they did was say that they were having trouble conceiving at *that* moment.

Just because you have kids in one part of life doesn't mean you cannot be sterile in another. Vint was middle aged by the time he was with Naomie, and with that, started shooting blanks.
