J. Edgar Hoover

That performance and portrayal seemed almost comical, it was the only poor aspect of this movie.

I agree. Vincent Gardenia, who was also known for playing "Mr. Lorenzo" on "All in the Family" portayed Hoover as very sinister and dark. Seems most scenes featuring Hoover were filmed in low light to enhance the notion that Hoover was a mysterious and dark figure. The real life footage I've seen of Hoover on other history programs does not reflect Gardenia's portrayal at all. I still enjoy this movie just the same.

Beginning in the late '70s with Broderick Crawford's "Secret Files" movie, J. Edgar has been almost universally portrayed as a malevolent force in American politics and society; I'm inclined to think that portrayal is more accurate than not.

Such a portrayal is very much part of this series, with its strong hint of Hoover as a rightwing pervert. Yet Kennedy (the president) did *Nothing* to curb Hoover's power, much less to remove him from office. "Kennedy" (the miniseries) did not even attempt to explain this discrepancy.

Love the Darth Vader quote! I think that is my favorite line from any Star Wars film.

Agreed. Hoover was an odd duck, but Gardenia's portrayal is waaaaay over the top. It is easily the weakest part of an otherwise exceptional production.

The full extended version recently released is epic.

He made Hoover an Italian stereotype.
