Do you know, I just noticed JF's age at the time, I couldn't believe it! I thought she'd have been maybe 30, but then I've always been rubbish at guessing people's ages. Shows how young some people can look! Didn't know that Sylvia Kay was only 9 years older than JF though, wow.
I've only just turned 26, & in rewatching the first 2 series, I thought that I wouldn't mind having a career like Penny's in a year's time. Wouldn't want to have gone through being jilted, then marriage to that horrible Graham & a divorce, but the career would be fine, lol. I don't know about the 'how grown-up 27-year-olds are' thing, but I don't think she was unrealistic.

It's just she showed (we generally but not always) a certain maturity I don;'t recognise in 27 years olds myself, but things have of course changed markedley down the years BUT I don't think many 27 years olods would talk and act in quite the way Penny does, as you say she fitted alot in for the age she was meant to be, but as I say JF is merely 9 years younger than the woman playing her Mum, and was about 10 years older than Penny was meant to be.
Not sure you'd get casting quite like that these days, apart from a few American shows though.
