Ok, the obvious question now...

Is this a spinoff series of the classic Rutger Hauer thriller The Hitcher? If so... how does it relate, and or compare, to the film other than it having a hitchhiker scaring the willies out of his hosts?

Asking mostly since I noticed the series is coming out to dvd here in sweden and since I really like the film I wonder if it's going to be worth the money to rent. And I've actually never heard of the series before this day...

No, there's no connection. I'm pretty sure this television series came out long before the Rutger Hauer film.

In the television series, the hitchhiker is never a central character. Rather, he serves as a device for introducing each story and then commenting on what happened at the end of the show, always speaking directly into the camera. He's kind of like the host of the show - like the Cryptkeeper in "Tales from the Crypt."

I watched this any chance I got when I was a boy for one reason only: naked women. I couldn't tell you if the stories were really any good because I don't remember. I just remember naked women.

aw... now that you mention it... I forgot to take a peek at the production dates... the series being from 1983 and the film 1986.

But nonetheless I think I'll rent it anyway since I noticed that Paul Verhoeven has done some episode and some other interesting directors has done their share...

thanks for the heads up anyways! :)
