Remastered HD versions coming to HBO next year

I notice that a lot of "vault" videos uploaded to YouTube (like old Oprah clips or Sesame Street clips from the 80s/90s on their official channels) are cleaned up and in HD. And they were shot on videotape. I didn't think videotape could be restored to HD. Only film. Hope it's not just badly cropped and with a slower frame rate, i.e. the "HD" version of the Bells special that aired on ABC Family last December. They did that with Mamas Family on MeTV too.
