How it should have ended.....

This is how I would have it end.

After believing they have destroyed Venger once and for all Dungeon Master relieves he could have sent them home all along but needed them to do what he could not. End his son’s rein of terror. Presto, Diana and Bobby want to stay in the realm while Hank, Sheila and Eric want to return to Earth.
Saying their goodbyes Hank and Diana thank each other for the help they gave one another with Diana saying she would have followed Hank into Hell itself to which Hank replies he would have done the same.
Eric and Presto also have a moment with Eric saying he believes in Presto and always has. Telling him he knows he will make a great wizard one day.
Shelia tires to get Bobby to come home with her but Bobby explains that he can’t leave Uni alone in the Realm as she is all he has while Shelia has Hank.
Saying there goodbyes and leaving The bow, Clock and Shield with the others a portal is opened and Hank, Shelia and Eric leave the realm.
A voice over by Dungeon Master explains that those who returned to earth did wonderful things. Hank becomes President and marries Shelia who becomes famous in her own right for exceptional charity work. Eric no longer hides behind his families wealth setting up Presto Industries one of the worlds largest and most progressive conglomerates.
Back in the Realm Diana has becomes Queen of Realm ruling it fair and just, Presto studies under Dungeon Master eventually taking over the mantel and Bobby travels the realm with Uni (who grows into a strong and powerful Unicorn) helping the helpless and defending the weak.

What do you think?

i actually quite like this ending.

well done

"she's the tear that hangs inside my soul forever."

reply

Uni or no Uni, there is no way Sheila would leave Bobby behind.

If was going to stay she wouldn't want her folks to lose both kids would she?

reply

No, she would stay with her brother. He's only 9, and as overprotective of him as she is, she would think that he needed her, and would stay with him.

Besides, given Sheila's personality, she'd probably think that her parents would want her to stay with Bobby.

Nope.

If that's what you think, then you know nothing at all about the character of Sheila.

Clearly you NOTHING about both Sheila and character/story development.
Stick to putting meaningless messages on the boards and leave the ideas to those of us with some creative sp**k.

Oh and owned.

reply

If you think that was an own, then clearly Sheila isn't the only thing you know nothing about.

But nonetheless, points awarded for your conviction. I guess the important thing is that at least you believe you make sense.

Either buy or rent the whole series or rent it the last disc has a radio broadcast of a series finale called Requiem the kids redeem Venger and go home.

Ive read the proposed script for the "final" episode and really its the only way to end the show.
You cant outright kill a character in a kids cartoon, lol.
Relieving Venger of his evil and sending all the kids home would of been a perfect ending to the show.

Michael Reaves hosts the Requiem pdf here...

It's a good conclusion to the series and a shame it never got made. It was open ended with the kids having the choice of going home or remaining in the Realm to fight other evils. We never see their decision.

Why can't someone make this final episode, all the freaking kids are still alive, Peter Cullen is making a fortune with Transformers, would it really cost so much to make this one episode for the fans?

reply

How did the series end? Like what happened the final episode?

reply

There was no final episode, it ended with I think the cave of the fairy dragons (which was one of the worst episodes of the series), but on the DVD boxsets a script of the Final episode “Requiem” is available and it’s a great read a more than adequate conclusion to a wonderful series. If you google it you’ll find the script floating somewhere in the web.

You used to be able to kill a character off in a kids cartoon. See some of the original episodes of Jonny Quest. Which is the more realistic that or modern ones. Children need to be shown reality, & implying that people cannot die is hardly doing them any service.

They redeemed Venger but the going home part was left ambigious at best still?

Had the show not being cancelled or still was but Requiem was made as an actually produced episode. A season 4 might've answered that question outright. But even in Requiem it wasn't answered that they even went home only that the doorway home wasn't lost to them in the final episode!

I read requiem and I loved how it ended. I actually like Mr. Quick's version of how the story ends too! Yes, Sheila is overprotective of her younger brother, but the lessons that are learned are that they can also take care of themselves and GROW.

I think this makes a good ending too, even if half of them go back to their world.

Might be overkill to ahve them come back/summoned when they are needed, but when the "He who shall not be named" is back in town, the others might have to be called to action again!

Look at "The Real Ghostbusters," and how they handled their cartoon continuation. I think it was pretty nicely done. Although I would have preferred ORIGINAL voices in the last episodes of Ghostbusters Extreme...(ie. Lorenzo Music and NOT Dave Couiller.)

Venger returns...Kills every one. And makes a nice charm of uni's horn after plucking it out of uni's skull....Hey, just a thought.

Okay, so this is a lot darker, but I think it would have been cooler had the kids gone through all the hell they did and then were finally sent home only to discover that their world is now a decimated, post apocalyptic wasteland. The end credits sequence almost backs this up a little as it seems to the D and D ride in quite dilapidated condition. Obviously, with a kid's cartoon, though you can't have a horrible, depressing ending like that, but that's what I get out of it, rewatching the box set almost 30 years later.

I know, as you grow up and know of the final episode in script format, Requiem provides closure to what we never got but also you just know you'd have enjoyed it more as a kid rather than ana dult who's more knowledgeble on how things are. Without the innocence of childhood there's alot that can't be enjoyed in quite the same way as an adult however!

I heard one urban legend or rumor was that the 6 kids were really dead and in some sort of purgatory, and that they died on the D&D rollercoaster ride from the very beginning!

Thats pretty dark if not darker to hear about for a conclusion to a kids and family orientated TV series, but its been pretty much debunked now as false. Writer for the show Michael Reaves even debunks it himself on his personal website, but the rumors were around during the show's run cos they never got home i imagine.

The end credits sequence looks more like it is night (past midnight) and the park and D&D ride is closed... just as the show closed out... until next Saturday morning when it opened again.

I always thought it would end with them back at the amusement park, like they went through some dimensional portal and ended up at the exact same time they started from (so to them it was all like a dream, though the events of the cartoons did take place in an alternate dimension)

But you can't tell from this.. http://www.youtube.com/user/SunbeltRyders/videos

Not bad but the part about Hank becoming president is a bit much. Besides Hank could never become that corrupt (lol). Also, how would the ones who return to Earth explain the disappearance of the other three? Finally, for me the concept from the original would be ending of Venger being redeemed as opposed to destroyed would have to be preserved and in that case I would think it would be he and not Presto who would take over for DM.

I also don't see Sheila, as an older protective sister, so easy to let her brother be raised by some teenagers & an old man who often disappears in a world she knows is dangerous. They met very dangerous enemies that had no connection to Venger there. Now you think losing half the team & half of the magic weapons (bow, shield and cloak) that saved their lives is smart or worse yet have Bobby & Uni travel alone? I don't see it. Sheila returns home & tells her parents she decided to leave Bobby in another world, "but hey what's for dinner?" - I sincerely doubt that.

Bobby is the last person I would expect that would want to stay. The Dragon's Graveyard (episode20) shows all of them excited/happy as they all run for the exit home before Venger destroys it. Afterwards, Sheila seems the least sad saying "cheer up guys, it's not the end of the world", but I think that is more to keep the group's spirits up - not that she wants to stay. Bobby is the most emotionally distraught as he quickly goes from depressed to 'biting/showing his teeth' anger (at Eric for something minor) to crying his eyes out about how he "hates this" and "doesn't want to be in this world anymore" and "wants mom and dad and our house and my friends and...." Hate is a powerful word. Bobby loves Uni, but he gives multiple reasons why he wants to leave and in another episode he accepts that DungeonMaster would take care of Uni if Bobby returns home & is ok with that. Bobby wants to take Uni to his home with him, but the older ones know it wouldn't be easy to hide & raise a unicorn.

Eric is the 2nd last person who wanted to be in that world.

Hank, as the group leader, I think would try to get everyone to make a decision as a group... not permanently split everyone up. Nevertheless, it would ultimately be each individual's decision.

Presto, is the only one that ever said he wanted to stay, but that is when he thought he had the opportunity to study to become a great wizard/magician and learn the full power of his magic hat. Therefore, one could say a now good Venger could be that teacher for him, but Venger may not want to do that. I think a good Venger knows he has a lot of work fixing his wrongs. One could say Dungeon Master would be his teacher - possible - but he seems more like he has places to go & things to do... well, as he puts it "your guide in the Realm of Dungeons & Dragons." Making Presto his DM apprentice is very different than teaching him how to use his magic hat & teaching him how to be a powerful wizard. All that aside, Presto did find a girl he liked in the Realm too so he would have the hardest time leaving, but never once did he even hesitate when he saw a gateway home.

When the Requiem episode ends I think the 1st question Presto (or anyone) would ask before deciding would be "if we leave... can we come back?"
