Sometimes I wonder if Black Adder ripped him off :

-both are manipulative , greedy & power hungry

-both set in ancient times (OK Izno is only set in one time period....but still)

-both are surrounded by utter nimrods although Iznos helper is smarter than Baldrick....but then again that doesn't take much ;)

-both their schemes usually end up going down the crapper

Funny, I too thought of Iznogoud. I suspect most American/Anglo users here have no idea of who he is. Baldrick becomes even more like the gentle, stupid Dilat in the later seasons, in the first one he's actually a pretty sharp cookie.
