What happened to the superintendant who took his wife hostage?

I was watching an episode of The Bill the other day and although I don't care much for the show, I found this quite interesting. This superintendant is accused of rape and then barricades himself in his office with his wife. Anyway at the very end, he fires his gun and we can see it pointing at someone but the camera doesn't show who. It then cuts to the credits. Can someone tell me what happens after this? Thanks!
