Who Do you think were the dumbest/stupidist cops on the show

I would say the most dumbest cop ive seen so far would have to be tom proctor. He always started of well but then seemed to have no clue what he was doing and eventually shot himself in the foot - forgetting to get a search warrant for a raid? come on. Being fair most of the characters particularly C.I.D have done stupid things but proctor seemed the biggest prat of the lot.

I thought PC Reg Hollis was the epitome of stupid on the show.

Reg def was up there and Gary Best, don't know how he got promoted to cid

reply

Reg was a genius, he was just extremely humble about it.
Polly on the other hand should have got a job sweeping the floors of a hairdresser's... That's only if she could work out what end to use though.

reply

Polly Page, without a doubt -- as thick as two short planks even just dealing with everyday situations that required the merest professionalism or even common nous. It was hilarious when through a three-episode story (1999-2000) Polly couldn't see that a self-destructive woman 'victim' was obsessed with and stalking her, despite umpteen clues, and kept blaming every man around her, accusing them of wanting to destroy her including her own mates in CID who tried to warn her at every stroke this woman pulled.

reply

Luke Ashton without a doubt.

reply

Tim Able (I think his name was intended as irony). Luke Ashton never seemed to me to be especially stupid. I think he was just too timid to be in the police.

Most stupid detectives - DC Holmes and DC Proctor (Barbie Doll and Dream Glow Ken)

Taviner was pretty stupid, and Roz Clark.
I couldn't stand Lance Powell.

Reg Hollis and Luke Ashton.

Sad to see some of you think Reg was stupid. He may have been uncool, but he was a highly intelligent and efficient officer, who knew a lot about a lot of things, but had a different prospective, view and approach to life. One may call him a nerd even, which by definition is exactly opposite of stupid. Had you ever bothered listen to him, you would've learned a lot. He was way more mature and advanced then others and because of that, he did not feel a desperate need to be "cool" like many others. And whatever you think of him, you all have to admit that you loved him.

Luke Ashton was also not stupid. He was a young, innocent and green newcomer, at best naive, but certainly not stupid. He had enough strength and bottle to stand up to many of the stronger characters. Life would have thought him to be more streetwise with time.

And don't even get me started on Dez, he is one of my favourites. He wasn't stupid, he was a sweet, funny, protective friend, full of love, and a good officer trying to catch the bad guys. What exactly is stupid about it? He certainly did push boundaries like a child, but he wasn't a bad guy. Personally I think the writers ruined his character at the end, and made his actions less believable but that's a different subject.

Just wondering, what exactly is the point of asking this type of question and for what reason? We all do stupid things at certain times. We all are good at one thing but not as good at something else. Rather then looking for negative (stupid), why not look for something positive, like whose character touched us the most and why, who we learned from, who we loved the most. Life is negative enough.

I would have said that Reg was possibly the brightest spark in Sun Hill; he was sensitive and knowledgable, enlightened about the human condition, and one of my favourites. I didn't like Luke Ashton at all, but he wasn't stupid: a little confused and impulsive, yet he could manipulate people when he wanted to. Poor Gilmore :( Des was a laugh, certainly not stupid, and despite his gruff exterior, quite a sensitive soul.

As for POLLY PAGE, she was never MENSA candidate, but the Cathy Bradford business revealed her naivety and just how plain annoying she was. Then, when he appeal succeeds, she enters a relationship with a JOURNALIST, and is surprised when there is a press leak!

Kerry Young was nice, but dim enough not to realise her husband was gay even after she saw him with a man, and completely ignored the hints from Gilmore. Moreover, she was then able to be convinced that she was raped, which showed how suggestible she was.

Tom Proctor needs no explanation really, although he wasn't really thick :)

Gary best , ken Drummond, and polly page

Honey Harmon - as dumb as a blonde can get

I also thought DI Nixon was an impulsive fool most of the time.

PC Stamp sarcastic idiot, in a tense situation like a hostage situation he would wind the crooks up instead of trying to calm them down. No wonder he never got promoted out of uniform. Reg was funny as he was stupid. Just watched one episode where a Mother jumped from a block of flats with her baby. The whole station was gutted then he comes out with "Oh by the way I found 5 more people for that charity parachute jump." XD
