MS15 ?

(I came over here from the Prime Suspect message boards because this has more activity... )

So apparently MS15 (or MS-15) is the designation for internal investigations, the police investigating the police, like IA (Internal Affairs) in the United States.

Can anybody tell me any more about this? Like why is it called MS15? And how does it work? Is it a permanent section inside the police force?

Thanks.

Best way I can explain it is that it is a permanent section within the Metropolitan Police - if you were to make a complaint about an officer, that complaint would be referred to MS15, Internal Investigations. They would then investigate and decide an outcome, and refer the investigation and outcome to appropriate authorities where appropriate, such as if the complaint is substantiated.

MS15 - that still puzzles me - it may be a phonetic designation, or it may be a room number, i.e the room they operate out of in the Metropolitan Police headquarters. My guess is it's some sort of designation within a part of the Metropolitan Police, similar to CO19 being the Armed Support unit.

Within the Metropolitan Police internal criminal and disciplinary investigations against serving MPS staff are conducted by the relevant Directorate of Professional Standards team.
