Automan is Due South?

Bear with me on this one... Take away the stylistic 80s imagery and look at the two shows structurally:
You have Automan (Chuck Wagner) as the central key figure who is so 'super-skilled' he can do anything he puts his mind to...
In contrast with this Benton Fraser (Paul Gross) is the Mountie who is also so 'super-skilled' he can do anything he sets out to do (speaking fluent cantonese, boxing professionally etc etc)

Then compare Walter Nebisher (Dezi Arnaz Jr) as the marginalised cop who is unable to prove his ability in the Cop environment until he is partnered with Automan (but having done so is able to demonstrate his own talents as well) - against Ray Vecchio (David Marciano) who (in the pilot movie) and most of S1 is the marginalised 'joke' cop of his Chicago precinct until his partnership with Fraser enables him to show his ability and thus become a more successful cop.

Remove the 80s 'Technology is the key to success' ideology from Automan and replace it with the more 90s ethos or ideological perspective of 'Natural ways are the best' (Look how many 80s shows are champions of Computer technology and once the 90s arrive the reversion to more natural solutions) Fraser demonstrates the same characteristics as Automan but he is the 90s 'environmentally friendly' Automan - who doesn't drain an entire city grid of power to operate. The Narrative arc is the same - or would be if Automan had survived beyond 13/14 episodes...

Comparing Cursor to Deifenbaker as the loyal hero's sidekick is a bit more a leap of faith but I'm sure you get the idea.
