Live Action / CGI Movie in the works

Fox 2000 Pictures, Twentieth Century Fox Animation and Bagdasarian Productions will produce a live-action/computer-generated event motion picture of Alvin and the Chipmunks, it was announced today by Chris Meledandri, President of Twentieth Century Fox Animation; Elizabeth Gabler, President of Fox 2000 Pictures; Ross Bagdasarian, Jr.; and Janice Karman.

Fox is currently looking for a top comedy writer and director, and expects to attract an A-list comic actor for the role of Dave Seville, the Chipmunks' "dad." Chipmunks Alvin, Simon and Theodore will be computer generated.

Producers are Ross Bagdasarian, Jr., and Janice Karman.

Mr. Bagdasarian's father, the late Ross Bagdasarian, Sr., created Alvin and the Chipmunks in 1958. The squeaky-voiced trio and Dave Seville made recording, broadcasting and merchandising history, selling 43 million albums (winning several Grammys in the process), starring in their own animated primetime series, numerous primetime specials, and number one network Saturday Morning shows seen in over 100 countries in 40 languages.

"I am thrilled to join Fox in turning 'Alvin and the Chipmunks' into an event 'tentpole' picture," said Ross Bagdasarian, Jr. "'Alvin' has three generations of fans, who can expect an exciting new experience in the big-screen version. The movie will merge the celebrated history and tradition of our beloved characters with a new comic sensibility and edge. This is an exciting time for The Chipmunks and this movie adds wonderfully to that excitement."

Janice Karman, president of Bagdasarian Production, added: "It's great to see the characters Ross' dad created almost 50 years ago continue to be presented in so many new ways. This movie is an exciting new adventure for the boys."

Commented Chris Meledandri and Elizabeth Gabler: "We are very excited to be working with Ross and Janice on the live-action feature debut of 'Alvin and the Chipmunks'. We have loved these characters since childhood and with today's advances in digital animation, the Chipmunks will be brought to life in a way never before possible."

I dunno, man. I didn't see either "Scooby Doo" or "Garfield", but I'm told they ruined both of them. The difference is, those two cartoons I used to just watch casually as a kid. Alvin and the Chipmunks I still have fond memories of to this day. I dunno how this idea could work.

But I'll tell Fox 2000 right now: Don't even think of casting Ashton Kutcher as Dave! That would mean Dave would have to be less mature than Alvin, Simon and Theodore and the Chipettes combined.

reply

Oh no....I can't see this leading to anything good. If they want to make money off the show put the seasons on DVD!!!

:/

reply

Can't you just imagine him yelling "ALVIN!!!!"?! It would be hysterical!

I just found it hysterical they want to make an Alvin and the Chipmunks movie now when they haven't been heard from in years. Before last week, it had been years since I last thought about the Chipmunks. I mean, and I don't want to piss off any Chipmunks fans when I say this, I just thought this was one of the dumbest movie ideas I'd ever heard. I don't hate Alvin and the Chipmunks, they have had their moments of amusing me, I just think making this movie it completely illogical...and that's what makes it brillant! But then again, that's what Alvin and the Chipmunks is at it's heart. I mean, a bunch of singing chipmunks? It's so stupid it actually works. So I guess if you look at it that way, then that's why they are making an Alvin and the Chipmunks movie. It's so lame, so absurd that I'll end up going to see it, and in that sense, it's brillant.

Any thoughts?

Oh, we're going there!!!!!!!!!"

reply

I dunno, I loved the original animation release back in '87. I doubt this one will hold a candle to that one's brilliance.

The Live-Action/CGI Alivin and the Chipmunks movie sounds interesting, I think Brad Pitt should be cast as Dave since he was hilarious in Cool World.

Actually, the Dave seville character in the 80s version was so much like Danny Tanner on Full House. Bob would be perfect.

Another choice would be tom cruise.

What is Ross Jr on anyhow? The last few projects bombed miserably... He wond up in some big lawsuit with Universal Studios... I have a feeling it will lay an egg just like Howard the Duck......

reply

I have another casting choice for Dave, how about Bill Paxton? He sounds like Dave.

This Sounds Like A Dumb Movie...But If They Are Going To Cast Dave...They should cast Bob Saget.

Bob Saget would be perfect. How about Doris Roberts for Ms. Miller?
