original early 80s episodes should be on dvd!!

Does anyone know if there are any online petitions to get the original 80s show on dvd? I mean the earlier ones, I know some of the later 80s are on dvd, when they are drawn different but I want the complete original series on dvd!!!

so many other 70s and 80s cartoons and kids shows have had dvd sets why not Alvin and the Chipmunks?

I agree with you, there's so many great cartoons on DVD from the 80's that I wish they would put the complete Chipmunk cartoons on DVD. What a great way to relive the past.

I haven't checked it lately, but you can vote for TV shows you want to see on DVD.

well i can explain why there is no dvd and a simple word is GREED....universal studios greed...

here is a little background, back in 1996 ross Jr sold the rights to universal studios because universal promised to make the chipmunks as big in 2000-2006 as they were in 1981-1991.They were talking new movies, new tvsows, putthing the original episode on dvd, even A WHOLE CHIPMUNKS AMUSEMENT PARK, the whole 9 yards. they were going ot saturate the market with chipmuks stuff. One problem Universal stuios lied to Ross Jr. They never had any intention of doing anything for the chipmunks other then 2 *beep* halloween specials. (frankenstein and wolfman specials) ross was pissed. he sued universal stuios for *beep* of money. ROSS JR WON THE LAWSUIT, KINDA. he won sht loads of money from universal for breech of contract, but he did not win the copyright to the chipmuks back till august 2006... it was a 10 year contract.. so back in august 2005 he started working on a new chipmunk movie with fox studios.

i am willing to bet, ever dollar i have, that the chipmunk episodes wil be on dvd soon LEGITIMATELY. there is ZERO better advertising then to remind 20-30 year old adults about their childhood cartoons by putting those cartoons on dvd.

watch out because he chipmunks will be back, and fox studios wont screw ross jr over and we might be seeing, i pray and hope, 10x the merchadising and materials and dvds and maybe even an amusement park.(but i personally doubt a whole amusement park devoted to just the chipmunks)

interesting...

I would go to a Chipmunk amusement park but I'm not the most sane person heh

I doubt it. All the licensed music the chipmunks sang in this series. Even if Universal was able to beat the challange of getting all the licenseing rights for a DVD release, it would cost them soo much that they would never do it cause they would likely never make it back from any profit in DVD sales. The only thing Universal can hope for is various TV channels to want syndication rights, none of which are interested right now.

I think it will come out on DVD soon. The Smurfs will be here soon.

You can buy some of the original episodes on DVD right now too. I just bought the Chipmunk's Valentine DVD at Wal-Mart and it had 4 classical "Valentine-ish" episodes. They also re-released the Christmas DVD (the 25th anniversary or something).
