If you've got a sense of humor, I recommend "Body Rock". It stars Lorenzo Lamas as an inept MC who becomes famous. The film is pretty ridiculous, but there is some decent breaking and a lot of unintentional laughs.

i can't believ you just mentioned 'rappin'. that is serioulsy the worst movie of all time. you're an idiot if you're going to put that up on a list of 'respectable' hip hop movies. especially next to 'freshest kids' and 'the show'.

It's a stretch, but there's a doc out there called "Just For Kicks". It's about shoes, but Grandmaster Caz, Doze, Futura 2000 and a few others are in it.

Worth watching, i think.

Nice list.

I've seen it at the idfa, a dutch documentary festival. It's a great doc, not just for sneaker freaks, but also for people that like hiphop (for above mentioned reasons)

Check out "Beat This! A Hip-Hop History" (1984). Enter the title on this site's search bar, then click "video clips". You can see the entire documentary there.

I'd recommend the insanely hard to get Dreams Don't Die. It features work by Dondi. Pretty f uckin cool. Y'all pretty much covered more than the basics with the other recs.

Bombin (1988)

reply

+1 for Bombin'. That's a fantastic doc and features a couple of faces you may recognise (Goldie and 3D from Massive Attack). They're the same age as me and since watching Bombin' when it first came out I've always had the utmost respect for those two for their contribution to the UK hip hop and dance scene.
