Outrageous Collector's Prices

The pricing of this great film on VHS has driven it out of the reach of anyone but a seasoned collector or reseller. For those who would simply like to see this memorable film it is "unavailable." None of the rest of us can pay $60 to view a subtitled used VHS. But the film is of such content that folks need to see it! The message of the film is clear and accurate. But it is beyond reach.

Here's the plea: If someone has the film and is willing, they should transfer it over to DVD and get the same kind of distribution as the German students in the film did with their message!!! The message of the film is the same message that those courageous young students had. Their message got out in their day but in this day it is not able to circulate owing to commercialism! Now that's Kafkaian twist on "what's right." Somebodys got it and can get it back into the hands of people who need to hear its message.

Watch the final interview with Traudl Junge in the film "The Downfall" ( Untergang, Der) and you will find that Sophie Scholl, the young female student portrayed in "The White Rose" was instrumental in opening Hitler's secretary's eyes to the truth about herself and her role in the Nazi empire. That is the kind of power the film has. It needs to get back into the hands of folks who need it!!

Now that the latest film about the White Rose,SOPHIE SCHOLL THE LAST DAYS ,has been shown around the world to great reviews I hope that this film will be made available on dvd for those of us lucky enough to have seen it 20 odd years ago.
I think it is a better film than SOPHIE SCHOLL but it is 20 years since I saw it so I might be wrong.

It's now on YouTube to watch, in parts.

Search for: Die weisse Rose (1982) (I)

Good film, more on the situation around Sophie and Hans Scholl and on the university (the nazi's slowly entering the world of professors and students), unlike the new Sophie Scholl film, which focuses on Sophie.

It definitely gives more back story than "The Last Days." I liked both films but for different reasons.
