A quite good film

I had never heard of it until a few days ago, while browsing through a list of modern German films about World War II. Prior to that I knew a little of the White Rose movement because back at university I read a book or two on the Nazi era, but the details I could remember now were very vague. I finally got to watch this film yesterday, and I liked it very much. Excellent acting, cinematography and art direction. It is a shame it is not so well-known worldwide as "Das Boot" is.

I watched it tonight after not having seen it for at least 30 years. It is still excellent but probably somewhat superceded by Sophie Scholl - Die letzten Tage. Die weiße Rose tells the story leading up to the arrest a bit better but it is not as grim as Die letzten Tage. The filming style also probably a bit too typical for films of the 70's and 80's and makes it feel a bit dated. Still a great film though and definitly worth watching. A very good blu-ray was released of it in Germany which sadly does lack English subtitles.
