As much as I love the Weavers, I found it impossible to watch this excellent documentary without thinking about Christopher Guest's "A Mighty Wind." I suspect he found inspiration in this for his mockumentary.

Yes, it's pretty obvious, isn't it? The earnestness of the Weavers' music lends itself to parody. Oh well, I think the ones who survive can take the friendly ribbing -- and if they can't, life must be very hard indeed.

It's on PBS right now and that's the first thing I thought.

It must have been the inspiration.
