Hi, now I have never ever heard of this series before but read a very praising review of this movie saying that emotionally it's up there with films like grave for fireflies and End Of Evangelion. Now I like these story based emotional anime films, but I don't know if I'll get anything out of watching this if I've never heard of captain Harlock. So do you think that this is for me?? also do you believe that this is an anime that is suited for adults as well?? I got in to this japanese storytelling like millions of others from the amazing Final Fantasy stories.

I doubt that anyone younger than his/her mid-teens could appreciate Arcadia of My Youth, especially since the film is paced slowly by today's standards. In this, it is much more like The Dagger of Kamui than, say, Ninja Scroll. However, familiarity with the original series is not required to see this, as the film is a prequel to the Space Pirate Captain Harlock TV series.
