Yes they are many NY based vigilante movies nade in the 70's & 80's such as the original DEATH WISH(1974) and DEATH WISH 3(1984), THE EXTERMINATOR(1981) and it's sequel, TAXI DRIVER(1976)(to a certain degree),and the same goes for William Lustig's MANIAC COP(1988) and it's 2 sequels. I would like to include possibly the infamous I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE aka DAY OF THE WOMAN(1978), that starts out in NYC and continues in upstate NY, whiere female lead Camille Keaton( a New Yorker on vacation in upstate NY) is raped no less than 4 times and left for dead by her assailants and then she proceeds to take bloody vigilante type justice against her rapists. Last week, Anthology Film Archives in NYC had a Vigilante Film Retrospective that had DEATH WISH, MS. 45, VIGILANTE, MANIAC COP I & II and VIGILANTE director William Lustig and MS. 45 director Abel Ferrara were both there in person during the screening of their films, answering questions about their films from the audience in which I was present.
