'Victor/Victoria' a gem!

I saw "Victor/Victoria" at our local drive-in when it came out. I was with my dad, and I remember him enjoying it. I thought it was great (and, as I was still in the closet in high school, quietly thrilled at Robert Preston's Toddy!) I managed to find a VHS copy at my local video store, and- YES! Government-Anti-Copying-Be-Damned!- made a copy of it (in Stereo yet!) I've always thought James Garner was a very handsome man, and when I watched this again, I realized that I always had a secret crush on Mr. Maverick/ Rockford! Years later, I watched some drag queen friends of mine perform "Le Jazz Hot", and it was such a delight to be reminded of that song. Leslie Ann Warren deserved her Oscar nomination completely. I've never seen the Broadway version, and I'm saddened that Julie Andrews won't be doing any singing again (because of her botched throat surgery, I believe she's unable to really sing like she used to). I would've loved to see her on stage, belting out "Le Jazz Hot". It's a very well-made film, and really the last gasp of a good movie musical. And, as Blake Edwards' future films would demonstrate, the last really great film he'd ever direct again. When I see Alex Carras, I always think of 'Mongo' in "Blazing Saddles", and "Webster" (full body shudder!) It belongs in, at least, the Top 20 of Great Movie Musicals, if not the Top 10. I now have great curiosity to see "Viktor und Viktoria", the original UFA film that served as its inspiration. Thanks, PEDOND

It's Karras with a "K". He was a "Lion" back when that meant something, so ya want to get his name correct.

Probably the last great classic musical comedy. Andrews, Edwards, Mancini are at the top of their art.
I agree, this movie is a pure gem!
