Question About 'Chicago' Song

Does anyone know Chicago history and what the line means "someday they say we'll have an airport"? Did they not have an airport near Chicago at the time? Or did I mishear the lyrics? Please explain. Thanks.

The movie was set in 1934. Midway Airport existed in the late 20s, but it wasn't commercial until the 40s. O'hare wasn't up and running until the 40s as well.
