Impressive that Julie Andrews pulled off a leading lady role at age 47
When I saw this originally in the '80s, it never even occurred to me to think she was "middle-aged", though of course she had been the star of "The Sound of Music" and "Mary Poppins" in a whole different era. Andrews looks evergreen here. She must have used a lot of face cream over the years, or had a plastic surgeon way more skilled than the ones other stars use.
I am trying to think of an older actress playing the lead romantic female role in a major studio production, in which the character is (apparently) a never-married woman with no children. I am drawing a blank. Can anyone think of a case?
