Manually working the action on his 1911?

I seem to remember "Ramrod" manually working the action on his 1911 pistol each time he took a shot.
If a 1911 functions properly, you don't need to do that - in fact you'll eject unfired rounds.
Perhaps Hauser was given poorly made blanks or a gun without a working Blank Firing Adapter???
