Time lapse?

The sequel "The return of a man named Horse" ends with the words that John Morgan lives with the Yellow Hand tribe until his death in 1854. Yet I read that "Triumphs of a man named Horse" (I haven't seen the film myself) takes place in the 1870's and John Morgan appears in it, despite he was supposed to have died some 20 years earlier.

Anyone who has a comment?
